We begin with the end in mind – a visual to explain customer behavior, an interactive dashboard that offers a 50,000 foot view of business performance, a summary report with varying degrees of granularity – and then go back to the start: the blueprint.

Our teams spend time mining your data – identifying sources, mapping fields, and QAing data entries – to create a sturdy foundation for your reporting/visualizations. Then we start outlining requirements: How often should the report/visual be updated? Where will the content be stored and shared? What levels of access are needed? Are data relationships and data stitching key considerations? How interactive should the content be? Does the content need to integrate with an existing system or platform? (There’s a lot more questions we ask, but won’t bore you with them here).

Once we have everything in black and white (well, really in blue because it is a blueprint after all), we put on our artist hats and begin designing.

Visual Design

Now it’s time to get creative. After familiarizing ourselves with your data, we get together as a team and brainstorm design. The design is based on an understanding of the audience that will be consuming the information and taking action.

Reports & visualizations should spark conversation and trigger action, so we draw endlessly on our whiteboard walls, making sure we achieve that result through our design. Not only that, we design beyond the picture. We get down to the color scheme (we’ll match brand guidelines), labels, size, and highlights.

Technical & Data Design

Then we put our data hats back on and get technical. We develop relationship diagrams for your data and data sources, map them to the graphs, and identify parameters or calculations that will be used throughout the process. Then we layer in filters – the user experience functionality that allows you to drill down deeper into your data.

We also design the technical experience. From access levels and granularity levels to software integration and sharing across your organization, we want your report/visualization to be as informative and useful as possible.

 

Now it’s time to put pen to paper (well really, data to BI tool).
